I DON’T GET WHY PEOPLE THINK JIN AKANISHI’S ‘TEST DRIVE’ SOUNDS TOO AMERICAN. OF COURSE IT SOUNDS AMERICAN! THAT’S WHAT AMERICAN AUDIENCES WANT TO LISTEN TO! IT’S HARD ENOUGH FOR WHITE MUSICIANS TO GET THEIR MUSIC INTO THE CHARTS; DO YOU REALLY THINK A JAPANESE GUY WITH A JAPANESE STYLED POP SONG WOULD HAVE HAD A CHANCE?!

lol i just want to say my friends who dont really like japanese music thought the song was awful but they said “the guy has a really great voice”
he would have been better doing one of his own songs rather than a collab with jason derulo.

Oh please.
The reason why Jin went to America was, and I quote, “To share my music”. The reason why all this tension is going down is because by taking on Derulo’s song for his debut and not one that he penned himself, he’s not sharing his music. He’s sharing Jason Derulo’s, and not even a brand new one. Test Drive has been floating around for so long, and some of my friends who do faithfully listen to Jason’s songs have been listening to it for a good year before Jin’s release.
In retrospect, Test Drive is catchy and nice, but it doesn’t mean I don’t think he’d do much better with the songs he wrote himself. The thing about Jin’s compositions is that it’s Americanized, yes, but it has a certain class to it—partly because he’s got some of his Japanese style infused somewhere, partly because that’s just how he writes his stuff. Christmas Morning, Fifth Season, and Tipsy Love are some of the most amazing English songs I’ve listened to, and they’re Americanized, but so different at the same time.
In conclusion, you should calm the fuck down.

These comments about Jin are interesting.

Jin releasing songs he wrote himself might work in Japan because he’s already so damn popular over there, but in the US?...
